Tuberculosis is a priority infectious disease due to its global impact, risk of reactivation and drug resistance. By studying neurological and immune mechanisms, in particular the interactions between Schwann cells, nerves and immune system cells, the project explores a new axis of tuberculosis pathogenesis with great potential for host-centered therapeutic strategies. Combining technological innovation and interdisciplinary research, the AXONO-TB research project responds directly to national priorities and emerging scientific needs in the fight against multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, and aims to support EU-wide efforts to monitor antimicrobial resistance.
