This project directly addresses the threat of emerging infectious diseases by studying antibiotic-resistant Escherichia coli strains associated with difficult-to-treat infections. Tolerance and persistence are clinical challenges: they contribute to longer treatment times and higher recurrence rates, and promote the development of resistance. The project will study Escherichia coli strains resistant to third-generation cephalosporins and carbapenems, two priority pathogens on the World Health Organization's (WHO) Global Priority List 2024.
